The Gippsland Region Public Health Unit (GRPHU), hosted by Latrobe Regional Hospital have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Public Health Physician on a fixed-term, part-time basis, until the end of June 2026.
Reporting to the operations leadership at GRPHU, this role plays an important role in supporting public health decision making and fostering collaborative relationships for improved population health outcomes in a regional area. This role will support public health decision making in response to communicable diseases and promote the health and wellbeing of Gippslanders for improved population health outcomes, while participating in projects across the unit.
This position sits within the Medical and Epidemiology team and links tightly with the current GRPHU Health Protection team (including Health Protection Leads and Public Health Officers) within GRPHU, the General Infectious Diseases and Infection Prevention and Control Services at Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) and across Gippsland, as well as other prevention, health promotion and research partners.
About you
Ideal candidates for this role will:
- Provide medical leadership for communicable disease prevention and control, including supervision of case management, contact tracing, outbreak management and incident management and control.
- Support surveillance and data analysis to rapidly identify public health risks and appropriately prioritise outbreak and incident responses.
- Partake in risk communication focused on improving outcomes.
- Represent GRPHU at community events, regional forums and external meetings.
- Have registration as a Medical Practitioner in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Have current Fellowship of the Australian Faculty of Public Health Medicine or completed requirements and awaiting fellowship, or Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
- Have relevant training/experience in public health medicine and/or infectious diseases and public health interventions and initiatives within health services and/or the wider community.
- The ability to work a rotating roster, 7 days a week, as part of a surge response or program deliverables (as required) and can be flexible in the event of surge, change or on-call.
- Be experience in training, teaching and supervising of junior medical staff and students in a public health setting.
- Have well-developed research skills.
